Students attending the Introduction to Optical Alignment Techniques course will learn about the equipment, techniques, tricks, and skills necessary to align optical systems and devices. Additionally, students will learn how to identify errors in an optical system, and how to align lens and mirror systems. These errors are the typical aberrations that crop up in optical design and also in misaligned optical assemblies. By knowing the causes of these aberrations, determining a fix becomes much easier. It is also important to think through the likely alignment process before the design is actually built, and the ramifications of neglecting this step will be discussed in detail.
