Description
Class will provide an introduction to ultrafast optics and the key physics and mechanisms that underpin short pulses (1/4 to 1/3 of the course). This will be followed by an exploration of the applications enabled by the high peak intensities and/or broad coherent spectral combs.
Taught by Scott Domingue, an accomplished engineer and technical leader with a passion for innovation and program
management. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Colorado State University, where
he specialized in ultrafast and nonlinear optics. With over a decade of experience, Scott is an Engineering
Manager at Thorlabs Laser Division, overseeing the development and manufacture of femtosecond lasers,
nonlinear optical components and laser accessories, and a burgeoning line of electrical lab tools. Prior to his
role at Thorlabs, he served as a Senior Scientist at KMLabs, leading optical and mechanical design efforts for
the Y-Fi laser family. Scott's dedication to problem-solving and collaboration has enabled him to thrive in
diverse research and engineering environments.
